Statement of Relevance
Energy and Power is appointed under a framework agreement to assist marine energy developers in Strand C of the Carbon Trust’s Marine Energy Accelerator project. Under this initiative the Carbon Trust seeks to speed the advance and development of offshore marine power generation technologies by funding the involvement of specialists to supplement developers’ in-house expertise.
Description of Services
Via the framework, Energy and Power is providing offshore, subsea, power connection, marine installation, access, maintenance and reliability expertise to companies with promising generation technologies seeking to advance to pre-commercial and commercial offshore installations.
The AWS wave energy converter is a cylinder shaped buoy, moored to the seabed. Passing waves move an air-filled upper casing against a lower fixed cylinder, with up and down movement converted into electricity. The concept has been proven at full-scale in 2004 via a pilot plant that was installed off the coast of Portugal. Engineering for a pre-commercial demonstrator is now ongoing.
